Biography of Thomas Paine
Thomas Paine was an English-American revolutionary and publicist.
He was born on January 29, 1737, in Thetford, United Kingdom. Paine arrived in America in 1774 with the support of Benjamin Franklin, whom he idolized. He served as the editor of the "Pennsylvania Magazine" from 1775 to 1777, where he played a significant role in shaping the atmosphere of indecision during that time.
He presented energetic arguments for American independence in his pamphlet "Common Sense" in 1776 and continued to support the cause through a series of proclamations called "American Crisis" during the war. His first proclamation was ordered by George Washington to be read to the soldiers to boost their morale.
